In this webinar we were pleased to have special guest speaker Jim Depa, Principal Geologist at Swenson-Marzec and Associates. His presentation discussed reducing investigation and remediation costs using high resolution tools and 3D technology. He was joined by Juan C. Rincón-Rodríguez, Project Manager-Environmental Analytical at REGENESIS, who discussed the use of flux mapping tools to vertically delineate contaminant mass flux and groundwater velocity within existing monitoring wells to aid in site characterization and remedial designs.

About the Presenters:
Jim Depa
Principal Geologist, Swenson-Marzec and Associates
Mr. Depa is a principal geologist at Swenson-Marzec and Associates. He is a 2005 graduate from the University of Illinois with degrees in Geology and Geographic Information Sciences (GIS). He has more than 18 years of experience in the environmental consulting field and specializes in creating 3D statistically based visualizations from subsurface data. He has created data deliverables on over 400 environmental investigation projects in 44 states and seven countries - from routine 3D visuals to multi-million-dollar design remedies. Specifically, Mr. Depa has helped design over a half dozen thermal remediation systems, calculated the in-situ contaminant mass in soil from one of the largest petroleum spills in United States history, and provided exhibits for four separate environmental lawsuits.
Juan C. Rincón-Rodríguez
Project Manager-Environmental Analytical, REGENESIS
Juan Camilo Rincon Rodriguez is a Project Manager in the Research & Development Department at REGENESIS®, where he leads the FluxTracer® program and oversees laboratory services supporting advanced environmental remediation technologies. He brings a strong academic foundation, having earned a master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Delaware, where his research on contaminant transport and degradation in subsurface environments resulted in two peer-reviewed publications in Environmental Science & Technology. He previously worked in REGENESIS Remediation Services as an Environmental Staff Scientist, where he conducted in-situ remedial applications across more than seven U.S. states, applying technologies such as in-situ chemical reduction (ISCR), in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), biological enhancement, and sorption to address a range of contaminants in soil and groundwater, including petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, and PFAS.
